¡Hola Padres y Profesores! (Hello Parents and Teachers!)
Although you can begin the Spanish by the Month Series with the lesson & CD for any month of the year, September is a great place to start! You learn and teach phrases such as "Hello" and "Goodbye" "What is your name?" "How are you?" great ways to compliment each other, numbers 1-10, classroom rules, and a classic back to school song, "The Wheels on the Bus"."
Below are a few vocabulary lists that you can practice with your child at home. Parents please know that there is a lot packed into this and every lesson. Depending upon how often your child has "Spanish Class" at their child care center or school, they may not get to learn everything in this lesson.

Let's Compliment _________!
Spanish In September covers several ways to compliment others. I taught this lesson today to a group of toddlers and preschoolers and by the end of our half hour class they totally understood me each time I used one of the compliments! See the English, Spanish and pronunciation key below. Read the pronunciation key as though you were reading English stressing the syllables that are underlined and you will nail the words!
1. Very Good! ¡Muy bien! (Moo-ee be-n)
2. Excellent ¡Excelente! (X-cell-n-teh)
3. Wonderful! ¡Maravilloso! (Mar-ah-be-yo-so)
I picked up a "light saber" at Target which the kids LOVED! After we practiced saying and singing the compliments with the Spanish In September CD each child took a turn to hold the light saber and tap a classmate on the head creating a "Star Wars" sound-and they complimented the child in Spanish for sitting quietly. The kids were angels during this activity because they each wanted a turn to use the light saber. I was happy because they were really complimentary each other in Spanish! Wow! Make class fun and the children will not even realizing they are speaking a second language!
