Everyone likes to be complimented, young and old alike! So let's learn three compliments in Spanish that you can start saying to each other today and everyday throughout the year. We make it easy and fun! Just follow the steps below.
Materials Needed: The Compliment Poster. Click on the blue button to open up the compliment poster and print it off. If you don't have a printer you can use the visual of the compliment poster provided below.
The Parent Video helps you feel confident pronouncing the compliments before teaching them to your children. As you're watching the video, look at the page entitled "Activity 4 Vocabulary".This page is your "cheat-sheet". See how each word is written in English followed by Spanish and there's a pronunciation key to the right of each word? Read the pronunciation key as though you're reading English and your pronunciation will be spot-on! Be sure to stress the syllables that are in bold and underlined. We try to make everything as simple as possible when it comes to families learning Spanish! When you feel confident pronouncing the words, continue with the activities to do with your children below.

Activities To Do with Your Children
1. Play the Audio File
Play the audio file below (click on the small triangle in the black audio strip). As you listen, point to the compliments on the poster that you printed out and sing the compliments with your child. Repeat the audio file several times.
2. Watch the Dog Trick Compliment Video
Together watch the Dog Trick Compliment Video in which you and your children help me compliment my dog "Oso" when he does tricks!

3. Ball Toss Game Toss a ball back and forth with your children. The first few times you toss the ball, pay the same compliment to the person you toss it to. Repeat the same compliment over and over until everyone has said it and received it several times. You want to get to the point where you are all able to say the compliment in Spanish from memory, almost without even thinking about it. Repetition is the only way to achieve this. When your child pays you a compliment act very flattered! Repeat this activity with two other compliments.
4. Balloon Tap Game
This is similar to the Ball Toss Game, but instead of tossing a ball back and forth, blow up a balloon and tap it back and forth. Follow the directions for the Ball Toss Game in number 3.
5. Compliment Chart
Create a compliment chart. On a piece of paper, draw one box for each family member, including your pets. Write each person's name inside of a box. For one week, tally each time someone receives a compliment from another family member. The next week tally each time someone gives a compliment to another family member. Count the tallies at the end of the day and at the end of the week. Give High-5's to everyone for giving so many compliments, and in a second language, wow!
6. Dog Tricks
If you have a dog have him do tricks and compliment him Spanish after every trick. (Just like in the video.)
7. Extended Family
When friends or relatives come over, offer to give them a free Spanish lesson. Teach them the compliments in Spanish using the activities in this lesson. If your children are old enough, let them take turns being the "Spanish Teachers". Your friends or relatives will be so amazed and appreciative of learning three compliments in Spanish with you. Challenge them to say the compliments during the rest of your time together! Tell them about our On-Line Family Spanish Membership!
8. Real-Life
Make it a part of your natural routine to compliment each other in Spanish from now on. Even compliment each other in Spanish when you are in public, like at the grocery store or the post office or the park. Notice how many curious onlookers there are! You may even have people as in admiration how it is that you and your children can speak Spanish together!
