Teaching Method and Languages Offered

O’Neill Language Academy’s Instructor’s use a highly effective teaching technique called Language Immersion. Language Immersion simulates learning in the ‘native country. From the first class students will listen, speak, read and write in their new language. Colorful visuals, grammar posters, role-playing, games art and music enhance each student’s comprehension and long-term retention. OLA offers corporate group courses and individual private instruction at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.

Corporate On-Site Group Instruction

Corporate on-site group courses are made up of ten-week quarters. Classes usually meet for 2½ hours one day per week for the ten-week period, totaling 25 hours of instruction each quarter. The number of hours and the frequency of classes can be modified to meet your company’s needs.

Speaking and listening skills are the main focus of each class. At home, students review what they learn in class with the help of their course book, audiocassette tapes and workbook. The maximum class size is 12 students. Maintaining smaller classes gives each student more opportunities to participate and speak the target language. Smaller classes also allow the instructor to spend more time with each student, giving them feedback, checking their work and practicing the language.

Corporate On-Site Private Instruction

Corporate on-site private instruction is designed for individuals who have busy work or travel schedules or for those who would like to study a language with more intensity than the group classes. Private instruction is also an excellent choice for professionals desiring a personalized curriculum. Each private class is tailor-made for the student. The student chooses the class location, the class schedule and the areas of study. Private classes move at the pace of the student.

English Courses for Employees

Many businesses in the Twin Cities staff employees with varying levels of English proficiency. If your company would like to offer on-site English classes for these employees, OLA can design an English language program specific to their level, needs and objectives. Employees are grateful to have the opportunity to learn or improve their English skills at their place of employment. Some skill areas that the students may want to work on are; clear pronunciation and accent reduction, vocabulary enrichment, idioms, American culture and cross-cultural communication, grammar, listening and speaking skills and writing. We can even incorporate vocabulary and language specific to your company and the employee’s jobs. Your group may want to focus on one, several or all of the above skills.
